Solenoid Valve Basics Part 4.2

DIN Connectors

It is recommended that the electrical supply is connected to the coil through a DIN connector plug and gasket. This gives a degree of protection against liquids or solids causing damage to the solenoid coil or causing the coil to become dangerous. A standard DIN connector gives the solenoid valve an IP (Ingress Protection) rating of 65. The IP rating is an internationally recognized standard that measures how well an electrical device is protected against liquids or solids entering the device. The first digit in the rating describes how well the device can withstand ingress by a solid, the second digit describes the protection against liquids. For example, a device with an IP rating of 65 would be totally protected against dust (6) and be protected against low-pressure liquid jets from all directions (5).

5-Strain relief nut
6-Central fixing screw
7-Gasket

The cables from the electrical supply are fed through a grommet and connected to the terminal block, which is encased by an impact resistant plastic housing. The rubber gasket is fitted between the face of the terminal block and the solenoid coil. A central fixing screw secures the connector to the coil.

DIN connectors can also be supplied with LED power indicators, moulded cables in a variety of lengths, power surge protection and integrated gaskets.
Special versions are available on request.
